This year is a little different. As a result of changing behaviours and everyday life, we considered it necessary to look at evolved lifestyle trends, to further understand the new priorities within the home, so we could inspire the embrace of the new normal and help customers adapt spaces to better suit their interior needs.
Working alongside our in-house design experts, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan, we’ve determined three key home lifestyle trends that research suggests will be of most interest to homeowners over the coming year. So, without further ado, let’s talk trends!
Sanctuary is all about creating a calm, safe and tranquil space within the home to de-stress and escape from the worries and angst that life can bring.
“With the global pandemic having an impact on our mental health, it’s vital that we create an isolated space, within our home, which brings serenity and allows us to take some time out to focus on our emotional wellbeing. Our environments have the ability to affect the way we think so this trend is about creating spaces that instill peace. Think soothing, neutral colourways and nature-inspired materials” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style
“Textures also play a key part in this trend. Tactile surfaces with either smooth and glossy or structured and matt finishes will help create a cosy, spa-like feel within a scheme. You also want to look at adding a touch of opulence for a slight luxurious vibe, so reflective materials such as our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics and large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are perfect for achieving this” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style
Due to restricted travel overseas, 2020 has been the year of the staycation and this trend is all about helping you bring relaxing, holiday vibes into your interior décor.
“The best way to embrace this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations or coastal inspired retreats and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations and bring them into your home.
Beaches and coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home that personify the natural hues of the sea and sky. Team with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style
“In addition to colour, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy materials to create bright, reflective spaces that bounce light around the room. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature iridescent qualities that not only provide a light-inducing surface but also mimic sea life inspired curves for the ultimate coastal-inspired space. Pair with soft woods and wicker textures to bring the look together” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style
With many of us now working from home, the creation of remote office spaces has become a necessity and has completely changed how we use our homes on a day to day basis.
“The Home Hub trend looks at working spaces and advocates décor solutions that motivates, inspires and brings a sense of calm – enabling us to work comfortably whilst creating a distinct space that’s separate to other areas of the home. Think urban jungle, bringing the outside in and cool and contemporary tiles with an industrial edge to create a working environment that has harmony and balance” - Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style
“When it comes to colourways, Home Hub is all about earthy tones. Incorporate various hues of greens and browns together with a range of surface textures and house plants to bring the look to life.
“Our Living Eden tile range complements this trend beautifully. Featuring lush and leafy designs printed on a large-format matt base, these tiles encompass the natural, contemporary vibe of Home Hub and are perfect for embracing this trend” - Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style.
